XML Basis makes JDF easy
Because DiMS! is based on XML, the adoption of JDF and JMF by the printing industry put DiMS! well ahead of other print business software suppliers.
JDF and JMF are XML-based languages used to transmit information between MIS systems and different machines in the printing environment. DiMS! software is based on XML, and as a result, JDF is essentially native to the DiMS! system. Many machine manufacturers have long used other, often proprietary languages, to control their devices, and thus found it necessary to develop translators to convert their machine language to an XML format. By the same token, many MIS suppliers developed their software using a wide variety of software schemas and they, too, were compelled to develop translators to accept XML-based messages and to convert their code to the JDF format.
JDF interfaces are not an issue with DiMS!. As a matter of fact, DiMS.NET! has achieved the highest MIS-ICS level of conformance currently possible in terms of JDF submission and JMF handling through the CIP4.
The following JDF certifications have been achieved:
- MIS to Prepress ICS
- MIS to Conventional Printing ICS (Sheetfed)
- Layout Creator to Imposition ICS and Base ICS
- MIS to WebPress ICS (Commercial Web)
- MIS to Finishing ICS
DiMS! is the first and only to be JDF certified for MIS to WebPress and MIS to Finishing. DiMS! is proud to be part of the certification process and to advance the level of standardization in the printing industry.
